Newcastle United have joined Arsenal and Liverpool in the pursuit of highly-rated Westham United midfielder Mohammed Kudus, according to reports.
The 24-year-old Ghanaian international has been attracting significant interest from several Premier League clubs, with his current market value estimated at a staggering £90 million and a release clause of £85 million in his contract.
Newcastle manager Eddie Howe is keen to bolster his team’s attacking options as the Magpies currently sit 11th in the Premier League table, having scored just 23 goals – one less than relegation-threatened Wolves.
However, Newcastle’s ability to finance a move for Kudus in the January transfer window may be limited due to concerns over potential Premier League Profit and Sustainability (PSR) breaches. The club is reportedly looking to offload “dead wood” players, such as 30-year-old Miguel Almiron, to raise funds.
Howe acknowledged the challenges posed by the PSR regulations, stating, “I keep saying the same thing about January, I wouldn’t expect us to be in a position to be too active in the market. As we currently stand up, things can change. You know, if we trade players, of course that’s different. But if we don’t trade players, I would expect us to be quiet.”
Despite Newcastle’s long-term interest in Kudus, dating back to his time with Danish club FC Nordsjaellat, a potential move for the midfielder may be more likely to happen in the summer of 2025, unless the Magpies can generate significant funds from player sales in the upcoming January transfer window.
