Can Pakistan host Champions Trophy?

The International Cricket Council (ICC) will decide if Pakistan will host the 2025 ICC Champions Trophy on Friday (today). The tournament’s venue and scheduling depend on this online board meeting.

With Pakistan and India at odds, the choice was made. A hybrid concept with neutral venues for India matches has been severely resisted by Pakistan. PCB Chairman Mohsin Naqvi told the ICC: “We will endure setbacks, but not at the cost of our dignity.”

The PCB has reportedly sealed most of the event’s hosting arrangements and demanded a satisfactory settlement before the ICC meeting. India’s refusal to play in Pakistan continues to cause problems, worrying broadcasters about financial losses.

Financial impact
Pakistan might receive $6 million from hosting rights, excluding ticket sales and hospitality, sources say. The PCB must budget $1.2–1.3 million for event insurance.

India receives 38% of ICC’s annual revenue, or $90–95 million, giving it a financial advantage. India’s unwillingness to travel to Pakistan has delayed the Champions Trophy’s scheduling and disturbed broadcasters’ plans.

An ICC spokesperson said today’s virtual ICC board meeting will address these critical issues and clarify the situation.
